MUAR: It was a good day indeed for 721 Felda Maokil settlers.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak presented them with grants to 80.93ha of land for housing and another 3,162ha for the planting of oil palm trees.
The settlers were beaming with joy throughout the ceremony held at the project site.
Met after the function, several settlers express their joy and gratefulness to the government, which they said had always looked after their welfare.
Zainal Harun, 66, said he was both ecstatic at receiving the land grant and grateful that the government was always concerned about the settlers’ wellbeing.
“For me, this is the result of my hard work for almost 30 years. I am grateful at being given this chance to chance my family’s lifestyle. Joining Felda means my family and I can live in some comfort,” he said.
Another settler, 62-year-old Md Salehen Sabari, said the gift of the grant from the government was a recognition of his hard work all these years.
“I also feel relieved that I have finally gotten this grant as I have been waiting quite a while,” said the father of five.
Meanwhile, 63-year-old Miskam Salman said the grant proved that his work since joining Felda in 1989 was worth it.
