MANILA — PNP Chief Ronald dela Rosa admits the country’s policemen lack quality firearms in fighting against threats of terrorism and criminality in the country.
Dela Rosa said he plans to purchase firearms from Israel for the members of the PNP.
“Kaya ng yung mga police station natin kayang kayang i-over run ng mga kalaban ng NPA, na over run yung ating police station sa Manila, police station sa Quirino province kulang nga sa armas,” he said. (This is the reason why our police stations can be overrun by NPA or police stations in Manila, Quirino province can be overrun because of lack of high-powered firearms.)
Dela Rosa further said he will prioritize giving high-end service weapons to policemen in critical areas.
“Sana lahat ng pulis lalo na yung kritikal na police station, maraming presenya sa kalaban, isyuhan natin ng ganung armas then will to fight will be increase, lalaban sila ng lalaban basta we will equip sila kung may baril silang maganda,” he said. (I will prioritize cops in critical police station where there is a strong presence of enemy. We will issue them with high-powered firearms. Then will to fight will be increase. They will fight. We will equip them with better guns.)
At present, only members of the SWAT and the Special Action Force are among the police units that have sophisticated weapons.
“Napaka-ganda lalo na sa ating mga special unit like SWAT at SAF, Special Action Force, napaka-ganda yung capability ng mga armas na yun napaka ganda, mahalaga, fighting against terrorism, fighting against criminals, napakahalaga ng gamit na ito,” Dela Rosa added. (This is good especially for the special units like swat and SAF or Special Action Force. The capabilities of the firearms are very good, very significant, fighting against terrorism, fighting against criminals. These equipment are very important.)
