QUEZON CITY – The CCTV footages captured in the areas where Police Chief Inspector Rommel Macatlang went before he was killed, greatly helped in the police investigation.

Investigators are now determining which group the suspects belong to.

“In fact meron na kami sa facial recognition medyo mahirap dahil nakacover ang mukha but on their movement pwede kami magsimula may nakita na kami (In fact, we have a lead on the facial recognition. It’s quite difficult because their faces are covered. But on their movement, we are able to see some leads), Eastern Police District Director PCSupt. Romulo Sapitula said.

Based on this CCTV footage, Macatlang was aboard a white Mitsubishi Adventure at dawn of April 18.

The video shows a motorcycle was tailing Macatlang’s vehicle inside Camp Crame and continued to follow him as he left the camp.

The men riding in tandem continued tailing the SUV while Macatlang was traversing Edsa.

When he stopped by a gasoline station in Pasig City, a man wearing a helmet approached Macatlang’s side and shot him before quickly fleeing the scene.

“The manner na bumaril sya, pag “getaway” nila, tinitignan natin kung may grupo ito. Kasi may mga previous na iniimbestigahan na baka the same pattern (The manner of the shooting. We are looking into whether they are part of a group. We have previous investigations similar to this, and we are looking into the same pattern),” PCSupt. Romulo Sapitula said

Macatlang was awarded with ‘Medalya ng Kagitingan’ for being instrumental in the arrest of murder suspects Joel and Mario Reyes in Thailand in September 2015. — Grace Casin | UNTV News & Rescue
