Directorate for Operations- Public Safety Division chief PSSupt. Eugene Paguirigan said the Philippine National Police (PNP) will begin deploying 70,000 cops starting April 7.
The day is the start of the summer vacation which will last until the opening of classes on June 13.
Barangays will also deploy 92,000 force multipliers who will help cops in monitoring petty crimes.
“The span of our summer vacation is long in this case. Along this line, we have important events like the Araw ng Kagitingan,” said PSSupt. Eugene Paguirigan.
The 70,000 cops will man crowded areas across the country.
“They will set up police assistance desks on places of convergence like malls… and we will set up tourist assistance desks in tourist destination areas,” added Paguirigan.
The PNP reminds the public to avoid taking selfies and posting their whereabouts on social media.
This is to avoid tipping off thieves about empty houses whose owners are on vacation.
The PNP also advises the public to ask their neighbors to check on their houses, and to inform them about the date of their return.
“Our neighbors should know we’re not at home. We should also give them our contact numbers and tell them that no one should enter our houses.”PSSupt. Paguirigan said.
Paguirigan also said PNP regional directors are the ones in-charge in raising alert levels depending on whether or not they see threats to security in the areas of their jurisdiction. – Lea Ylagan | UNTV News & Rescue
