PNP to try to extend the UNTV Cup Finals against Malacañang

Three-time runner-up PNP Responders will attempt to force a game 3 in the best-of-three UNTV Cup Season 5 Finals as the team meets Malacañang Kamao in game 2 this Tuesday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

PNP Responders Head Coach Erick Samson said, “Expectedly, 101 percent lalaban kami (we will fight). One hundred one percent we will give all the best to bounce back in game 2.”

The PNP team admits they ran out of power during the last seconds of game 1.

“I don’t want to blame them… ang sabi ko lang sa team namin, magpe-prepare kami kung ano yung pinaka the best na adjustment na pwede naming gawin sa game 2, gagawin namin (I just told my team we will prepare whatever the best adjustment is that we could do in game 2),” Coach Samson added.

Malacañang Kamao defeated the PNP Responders by 1 point, 81-82, with back-to-back 2-point field goals from Eric dela Cuesta in the last 37.4 seconds of the ball game.

The play prepared by the PNP did not work. Both Harold Sta. Cruz and Jay Mann Misola were not able to bury their free throw shots.

Malacañang Kamao dominated the rebound department in game 1, while the PNP led in assists, steals and blocks.

This is the fourth time for the Philippine National Police team to attempt to claim the championship title of the league for public servants.

The season champion will win P4 million in cash, while the runner-up team will win P2 million.

An awarding ceremony will also be held in game 2 at the Big Dome.

Each participating team which are not included in the Final 4 will receive P100,000 for their chosen charities.

The 3rd and 4th placer teams will also receive cash prize for their beneficiaries: Judiciary Magis to get P1,000,000 while BOC Transformers get P500,000.

Individual honors will also be revealed in Game 2:

– Defensive Player of the Season
– Most Valuable Player
– Starting 5 (Mythical 5)
– Step Up Player
– Scoring Champion

Entertainment will be provided by Tawag ng Tanghalan finalist Sam Mangubat, Katrina Velarde aka Suklay Diva and Marcelito Pomoy.
