Filipino Dota 2 powerhouse Polaris Esports defeated fellow Philippine team Execration, 2-1, to win the Asia-Pacific Predator League 2022 Grand Finals in Tokyo, Japan on Sunday (13 November) and take home the US$75,000 grand prize.

Polaris earned their spot in the tournament after winning the Philippine qualifier back in September. They then dominated the Playoffs en route to the finals, defeating India's Revengers, Malaysia's ChubbyBoiz, and fellow Filipino squad Grindsky Esports.

Meanwhile, Execration were one of the teams invited to Tokyo. They lost their first match to fellow Filipino team TNC and were dropped down to the lower bracket, where they seemingly flipped a switch.

Execration knocked out Australia's Boonz + Goonz, ChubbyBoiz, got their revenge over TNC, and bested Grindsky to earn the right to challenge Polaris in the best-of-three grand finals.

Execration carried the momentum from their fiery lower bracket run into game one of the finals, taking a convincing 30-minute victory.

Jinn "Palos" Lamatao led the way with 11 kills and 16 assists against just one death on his Pudge, pacing his team's 38-15 kill lead.

Polaris were quick to strike back in game two, where they absolutely dominated Execration in a 31-minute stomp. Mc Nicholson "Lelouch-" Villanueva showed out on Leshrac, notching a series-high 16 kills and 18 assists against only one death as his team forced the finals to a decider with a 44-13 kill lead.

Polaris smelled blood in the water in game three, as they once again led from the get-go and never looked back. Despite Execration's attempts to mount a comeback, they could do little to stop Polaris from forcing the GG call after a quick 25-minute beatdown to claim the title.

Nikko "Force" Bilocura on Broodmother and Marvin "Xavius" Rushton on Marci both notched seven kills and fueled their team's 26-9 kill lead in the victory.

Polaris claimed the lion's share of US$75,000 out of the tournament's US$120,000 prize pool as the champions. Meanwhile, Execration settled for second place and US$30,000.

Alongside its Dota 2 competition, the Asia-Pacific Predator League 2022 Grand Finals also featured a PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds event, which was won by Vietnam's Genius Esports.
