Police appeal after man injured inside pub

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was injured inside a pub in Guernsey.

Guernsey Police said the incident took place at about 20:40 GMT on Friday, inside the Mariners Inn.

The incident involved an altercation where a male suffered a head injury, police said.

Officers want to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has any information that could assist the investigation.

Ibrar Hussain, 47, Imtiaz Ahmed, 62, and Fayaz Ahmed, 45, were sentenced to prison sentences of six-and-a-half years, nine years, and seven-and-a-half years respectively at Bradford Crown Court. India police volunteer convicted of rape, murder of junior doctor
STORY: An Indian police volunteer was convicted of the rape and murder of a junior doctor at a hospital in the eastern city of Kolkata on Saturday.The woman's body was found in a classroom at the state-run R G Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9 of last year. There was heavy security outside the court as the defendant, Sanjay Roy, arrived for the verdict.The case sparked national outrage over a lack of safety for women and led to mass protests and strikes throughout India. Some doctors stayed off work for weeks to demand justice, and better security at public hospitals.Roy said in November he was (quote) "completely innocent" and was being framed. He reiterated this in court on Saturday. "I have not done this," he said.Roy's lawyers could not immediately be reached for comment on the verdict. They had argued there were glaring discrepancies in the investigation and forensic examination reports.The judge said circumstantial evidence had proved the charges against Roy. And that the sentence would range from life in prison to the death penalty.The parents of the victim expressed dissatisfaction with the probe. And said the crime could not have been committed by just one person.During the trial, India's federal police described the crime as (quote) "rarest of rare."The trial began in November and was fast-tracked to conclude swiftly, according to court sources.The officer heading the local police station at the time of the crime and the then-head of the hospital have also been charged with destruction of the crime scene and tampering with evidence.
