Police arrive at car crash to 'find woman finishing a glass of wine' next to battered Mercedes
Police officers have described arriving at the scene of a car crash to find one suspect polishing off a glass of wine next to a battered Mercedes.
Two women aged 33 and 35 have been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving without insurance, and taking the car without the owner’s consent in an aggravated manner.
Merseyside Police arrived in Huyton shortly after 4am on Sunday after reports of the white Mercedes crashing into a parked Ford Focus.
“One female who was just finishing off her glass of wine was spoken to and later arrested” after taking a breathalyser test, officers said. Her apparent companion was also arrested.
Images published by Knowsley Police appear to show an open bottle of rose wine under the central armrest, in addition to an empty bottle and wine glass under the passenger seat.
Further photographs show significant damage to the bonnets of both cars and debris scattered across the road.
Both women have been released under investigation, the force said in a statement.
“Cars smashed up, more importantly lives could have been lost,” wrote one social media user, while another said: “So glad I park my car on my drive.”
In a statement on Monday, Merseyside Police said: “Officers were called at around 4:15am on 28 June following reports of a road traffic collision on Lyme Cross Road, Huyton.
“A white Mercedes car is reported to have collided with a parked Ford Focus. Two women, aged 33 and 35, both from Huyton were arrested at the scene on suspicion of unauthorised taking of a motor vehicle and drink-driving.”
