KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 12 — Police have confirmed a man was splashed by an unknown individual with acid, after a social media post on the incident went viral earlier today.

Dang Wangi police chief Assistant Commissioner Shaharuddin Abdullah said the incident took place near Jalan Pekeliling when the victim was fishing alone at the nearby Gombak River.

“We are still waiting for a report from the victim to provide further details,” he said.

However, it was not clear whether the incident was done deliberately or an accident.

An alert of the incident went viral on social media earlier today claiming the victim felt burns all over his body and jumped into the river to save himself.

The message added the victim was found by passers-by and brought to Hospital Kuala Lumpur for immediate treatment.
