Police cripple gang stealing from visitors in Shah Alam lake garden


SHAH ALAM: Shah Alam police crippled a gang that has been stealing from visitors at the Lake Garden Section 14 here following the arrest of three local men on Tuesday (Aug 14).

Shah Alam District Police chief ACP Baharuddin Mat Taib said police managed to solve eight cases involving visitors to the lake with the arrest of the three suspects.

“This gang was targeting visitors with a motorcycle who left their valuables under the motorcycle seat, they use a lever to lift motorcycle seat locks and steal the stored items,” he told a press conference here today.

He said two gang members, believed to have been active since a year ago, were detained while riding motorcycles after stealing from a motorcycle parked on the lake.

After questioning the two suspects, he said the police were brought to two houses in Datuk Keramat, Kuala Lumpur and Section 16 here, where another suspect was arrested.

“In the houses, police recovered a handful of wallets, handphones, watches and backpacks believed to be worth about RM35,000. The police also seized two motorcycles used to commit the crimes. “The three men, aged between 26 to 30, were remanded for further investigation under Section 379 of the Penal Code and we will make a request to take action under the Prevention of Crime Act (POCA),” he added. - BERNAMA © New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd
