Police investigate fatal hit and run on Austin Road on Walpole Island

Police in Lambton County are investigating a fatal hit and run Austin Road in Walpole Island First Nation.

They say it happened just before 3 a.m. Friday.

Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police, Walpole Island First Nation police and emergency services responded to a collision involving a 47-year-old pedestrian from Walpole and a motorist, who fled the scene.

The incident occurred on Austin Road, between Creek Road and River Road.

The stretch of roadway has since reopened after being shut down for several hours.

The police are still trying to locate the motorist who fled the scene.
