Watch: Police officer who kicked 15-year-old to the ground investigated

A police officer is being investigated after being filmed launching a jumping kick at a 15-year-old girl, knocking her to the ground.

Video footage shows the officer charging at the teen and kicking her as he comes to the aid of another officer.

The officer, who is now being investigated, is seen shouting "move back" as he jumps and kicks the girl with his left foot.

The shocking incident happened outside an Indian restaurant in Norwich, Norfolk, at around 5pm on Sunday, 26 September.

Norfolk Constabulary have confirmed that the incident has been referred to the Independent Office of Police Conduct (IOPC) but declined to confirm whether the officer who kicked the girl was still on active duty.

The incident happened as the girl appeared to be trying to stop two other officers from handcuffing her friend.

Footage initially shows a single male officer struggling to handcuff a girl before the pair fall to the ground.

The girl says "yank him off me, yeah" as her friend pulls on the officer's arm.

A police van arrives on the scene and a female officer runs to help, while another male officer - who is now being investigated - runs in and launches the kick at the girl's friend.

The girl can be heard screaming and says "don't put your knee on my belly" as the officer handcuffs her.

Dexter Hanna, 41, who caught the incident on video, said the officer "didn't ask any questions" before kicking the teenager.

He claimed the girls were confronted by police after they were allegedly caught underage in a pub and suggested that they were trying to impress him as he videoed the incident.

He said: "It was one police officer that was there and when he was trying to restrain her he was trying to be nice.

"Then she was putting on more of a show when I started recording. They were bullying him [the officer] and almost beating him up.

"When the other one came he didn't ask any questions he just gave a big flying kick."

Both girls were arrested and released on bail but Norfolk Constabulary have not confirmed what the pair were arrested for.

A force spokesperson said: "We are aware of a video circulating on social media following an incident in Norwich on Sunday (26 September 2021).

"The matter has been voluntarily referred to the Independent Office of Police Conduct (IOPC) and an investigation is ongoing."

The IOPC confirmed that it received a referral from Norfolk Constabulary on Tuesday morning.
