Police tracking down ‘coward’ Charles Morais, says IGP

The police are tracking down Charles Morais, the brother of murdered deputy public prosecutor Anthony Kevin Morais, as he is under investigation for withholding information and attempting to commit sabotage, according to news reports. Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar reportedly said Charles had left for Singapore early Thursday morning, after releasing an 18-page statutory document (SD) alleging Kevin's murder was linked to a charge sheet he was preparing. "He (Charles) is a very irresponsible man. After he gave his press conference at his lawyer's office, he immediately left Malaysia via Johor Baru, and we are currently tracing where he is right now. "We checked that he has crossed over on the Johor Baru causeway at 1.30am that same evening. So we have opened an investigation under Section 202 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CPC) for withholding information and under 124L Penal Code," Khalid was quoted as saying at a press conference today. "He makes an accusation and then he runs away. Coward. What kind of human is this." Khalid said the police would also contact Charles's lawyer, Americk Sidhu, to aid in their investigations. "So we will call his lawyer to facilitate us because his lawyer was so quick to help him organise his press conference so now we will call him to assist us as well," he was quoted as saying, Americk told The Malaysian Insider yesterday that Charles had left the country as he had failed to have a second post-mortem done on Kevin's remains. "He was in Malaysia since September 23 and his only aim was to have a second post-mortem conducted on Kevin's body. "After that plan was scuppered by another brother (Datuk Richard) there was no reason for Charles to remain in Malaysia," Americk told The Malaysian Insider. Americk said the police would have to get in touch with Charles in the US if they wanted to interview him over the contents of the SD. On Wednesday, Charles told a packed press conference that Kevin had confided in him that he was preparing a charge sheet against a "high-ranking government official" while he was in the Attorney-General's Chambers. Charles also alleged that his brother, Richard, was in cahoots with "someone", which was why Richard had taken Kevin's body from the mortuary. Charles also hit out at the A-G's Chambers for allegedly hoodwinking him as they had initially consented to the second post-mortem but later asked him to get a court order instead. He also revealed that he was in possession of a pen-drive Kevin had sent to him by courier before he died. "The content of this pen-drive clearly and unequivocally reveals the investigations Kevin had been tasked with just before his untimely death which implicates certain personalities who currently walk the corridors of power in Malaysia," Charles had said. Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali dismissed the contents of the SD while Khalid said Charles should share with the police the contents of the pen-drive. Six men have been charged with Kevin's murder while pathologist Dr R. Kunasegaran has been charged with abetment. Kevin's body was found in a cement-filled steel drum in a swamp in Taman Subang Mewah in USJ 1, Subang Jaya, 12 days after his abduction on September 4. – November 28, 2015.
