GEORGE TOWN: Police today confirmed that a woman and two-year boy, found dead at a beach in Teluk Bahang yesterday, died of drowning.

A post-mortem examination done on the woman, in her 30s, also turned up a surprise: she was 11 weeks pregnant.

Southwest district police chief Superintendent Anuar Omar said police also found a RM2 Rapid Penang bus ticket in her possession.

“We will check with Rapid Penang where the victim could have travelled from.

“For now, investigations are still ongoing,” he said.

It was reported that both bodies were found tied together with raffia string when discovered by visitors to the beach about 6pm yesterday.

Police believe both the woman and child were related.

It is believed that both mother and son had tied themselves together.

Their identities have yet to be ascertained.
