BALAKONG: Polling officially closed at 5.30pm for Balakong by-election.

Folks in Balakong cast their ballots today to elect a new assemblyman, following the death of their representative Eddie Ng Tien Chee, in an accident at KM11.7 of the Grand Saga Highway on July 20.

The Balakong by-election sees a straight fight between MCA’s Tan Chee Teong and Pakatan Harapan’s Wong Siew Ki.

The voters casted their votes at 16 polling stations with 128 streams within the constituency.

According to the Election Commission (EC), the voter turnout stood at 39 per cent as of 4pm.

The EC had targeted a voter turnout of between 70 and 80 per cent in the by-election.
