Pongsiri Mitsatit Wants Spectacular Finish Of Akihiro Fujisawa

Twenty-four-year-old Thai rising star Pongsiri “The Smiling Assassin” Mitsatit is looking to get his career back on track when he returns to the ONE Championship ring this month.

Mitsatit is scheduled to face Japan’s Akihiro “Superjap” Fujisawa in a three-round mixed martial arts contest at ONE: NO SURRENDER II, a closed-door, audience free event set for broadcast on Friday, 14 August in Bangkok, Thailand.

Known for his electrifying style and aggressive offense, Mitsatit is looking to make quick work of his Japanese adversary.

“This fight is going to end before the third round. I’m going for the finish,” said Mitsatit.

“I’m very excited to compete again. I haven’t competed for a long time with everything that’s going on.”

Mitsatit owns a 10-5 record, which includes eight thrilling victories by knockout, and one by submission. He’s one of the most exciting young talents to come out of Thailand. His

Fujisawa, on the other hand, is only 5-3 so far to start his career, earning his spot on the ONE Championship main roster after impressing mixed martial arts legend Rich Franklin on ONE Warrior Series.

Having faced some of the best strawweight talents in ONE Championship since joining the promotion in 2016, including names such as Hayato Suzuki, Lito Adiwang, Yoshitaka Naito, and reigning ONE Strawweight World Champion Joshua Pacio, Mitsatit certainly has the edge in experience over Fujisawa.

As such, “The Smiling Assassin” believes he owns significant advantages in certain areas of the game.

“I’ve watched several footage of his previous fights. His strength is in his submission and ground game,” said Mitsatit.

“But I think his weakness is in striking, so I want to test that out a little bit.”

ONE: NO SURRENDER II is ONE Championship’s second event in Bangkok since resuming its flagship event schedule. The headline bout features a bantamweight Muay Thai showdown between former ONE World Title challenger Saemapetch Fairtex and countryman Rodlek PK.Saenchaimuaythaigym.

After the huge success of ONE: NO SURRENDER last July, Mitsatit wants to continue to inspire fans in Bangkok and around the world who are looking for a ray of positive light through trying times.

“I think this is a very important event for all the fans in general,” said Mitsatit.

“We all need inspiration, especially in times like these, and I think as athletes, we can help give that to people.”

After its return to martial arts action last Friday, 31 July, ONE will resume its flagship schedule with ONE: NO SURRENDER II on 14 August in Bangkok, Thailand. The show will also kick off the recently announced ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai Tournament.
