Can populists truly deliver on promises if they win, asks Hishammuddin

LAHAD DATU: People should think through whether populists are able to deliver their promises when they come into power, says Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein.

“As the election mood is here, certain quarters will raise many issues to make the people angry and emotional. But how real are their promises?

“It is right that Sabah is for Sabahans, but can they defend the state without peninsular people (federal government)?”

“Will the oil royalty be enough to build schools and pay the teachers?” said Hishammuddin, who is also Defence and Special Functions Minister, after attending the Eastern Sabah Security Command briefing here today.

He said the Defence Ministry had placed substantial investment in assets and manpower in Sabah.

Hishammuddin also said there was no value that could be placed on the security personnel who had come to the state and sacrificed plenty to uphold sovereignty in the country.
