A Potential Super Match For John Wayne Parr

Just a few weeks ago, Muay Thai pioneer John Wayne “The Gunslinger” Parr announced he was coming out of retirement on Instagram.

His subsequent signing with ONE Championship sent waves of excitement rippling across the martial arts world.

Parr has spent over two decades in top-flight competition and is a 10-time kickboxing World Champion, with a combined 99-33-1 Muay Thai record.

After taking a split decision win over boxer Anthony Mundine in December 2019, the Australian now aims to secure his 100th win on the global stage for martial arts.

Already, fans are salivating at a number of exciting potential match-ups for “The Gunslinger” when he makes his promotional debut.

However, a prime candidate for his return bout could be longtime rival “The Boxing Computer” Yodsanklai IWE Fairtex.

Parr has clashed with the Thai icon in the past, with “The Boxing Computer” taking two of the three matches in their famed trilogy.

Most memorably, it was Yodsanklai who emerged with a unanimous decision in their second battle, which coincidentally served as the series finale for the reality show The Contender.

A potential fourth bout with the Fairtex representative under the new ONE Super Series rule set is a tantalizing thought for the Australian legend.

“In my career, I’ve been lucky to fight with Yodsanklai three times, and to fight Yodsanklai with mixed martial arts gloves on in a cage – man, that would be such a killer fight,” Parr said.

“I think we would stop the world. I think everyone would stop what they’re doing, go to the ONE Championship app, and they’d be in for the fight of their life. It’d be so exciting.”

A reunion that pits these two legendary strikers against one another could benefit either man’s legacy.

Should Parr come out on top like he famously did in 2010 for the vacant WKA World Middleweight Title in Melbourne, then it would further solidify his spot as one of Muay Thai’s greatest competitors.
