Power Rangers reboot planned for movie and TV series
The Power Rangers are set to head into their next incarnation, with a new movie and a TV series in the pipeline.
And it will be taking a potentially very different turn too, with the appointment of British director Jonathan Entwistle to the helm, according to Deadline.
Rochdale-born Entwistle has been behind the edgy Netflix and Channel 4 series The End Of The F***ing World, and also the Netflix teen comedy-drama I'm Not Okay With This.

“This is an unbelievable opportunity to deliver new Power Rangers to both new and existing generations of awaiting and adoring fans,” he said in a statement.

“We’ll bring the spirit of analog into the future, harnessing the action and storytelling that made this brand a success. I’m looking forward to working with the teams at eOne and Hasbro. Together, we can’t wait to share more Power Rangers with the world very soon.”
According to reports, he will produce and direct both the movie and the TV series.
The franchise, created by Haim Saban and Shuki Levy, first emerged in 1993, as The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, a team of teenagers in spandex recruited by the wizard Zordon to fight the evil Rita Repulsa.
In addition to the TV show, which was dubbed and sold around the world, it generated a staggering $6 billion in toy sales, with Hasbro picking up the toy license in 2018.
The franchise was most recently rebooted in 2017, with Lionsgate's Power Rangers, which brought in a new cast and some unexpectedly impressive names like Bryan Cranston, Bill Hader and Elizabeth Banks.
Sadly, it tanked at the box office, and suffered middling reviews.
