Prague Activists Erect Havel-Inspired Giant V-Sign Hand Sculpture Outside Russian Embassy

An activist group erected a giant sculpture of a hand giving a profane two-finger salute outside the Russian embassy in Prague on August 24, Ukraine’s Independence Day.

The sculpture was put in place by the Anarcho-Syndicalist Commune, Prague Chapter, which said it “reinterprets former Czech president Vaclav Havel’s ‘V’ peace sign.”

“The sculpture’s context is defined by the viewer’s angle. Most people will view it as an expression of peace and victory from Boris Nemtsov Square, just across the road from the Russian Embassy,” the group said. “For those viewing it from the Russian embassy, it is a clear reflection of the sentiment of the majority concerning Russia’s unprovoked aggression in Ukraine.”

The sculpture was created by Jan ‘Slove’ Slovencik; in May, Slovencik posted footage of a smaller version of a similar sculpture. Credit: Anarcho-Syndicalist Commune, Prague Chapter via Storyful
