I pray she embraces Islam, ex-husband’s wish for S. Deepa

As S. Deepa pined over losing custody of her eight-year old son, her former husband Izwan Abdullah hoped that she would embrace Islam like the rest of her family. He told reporters, after being granted custody of his son at the Federal Court today, that Deepa was the only remaining Hindu while the rest of her family members had converted to Islam. “I pray my former wife will have the revelation to embrace Islam, like how all her family members have done. “She is the only one not embracing Islam," he said. Izwan, whose Hindu name is N. Viran, also said that the court had arrived at the “right” decision by granting him custody of the son and their 11-year-old daughter, Sharmila, to Deepa. A five-man bench chaired by Tan Sri Raus Sharif said a non-Muslim marriage did not dissolve when one party embraced Islam. Both parents could visit their children at the home of Deepa's mother, Siti Aishah Abdullah, in Jelebu once in two months between 10am and 3pm. Also, the parents and children could communicate over telephone without restrictions. – February 10, 2016.
