Unable to visit Singaporeans working on the first day of Chinese New Year, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong recorded his Chinese New Year greetings and shared them on Facebook.

“I’m sorry that I’m not able to be up and about this New Year,” he said.

Diagnosed with prostate cancer in January, PM Lee is on medical leave after undergoing an operation on Monday to remove his prostate gland. He was discharged from hospital on Wednesday. While in hospital, he also 'dropped in' on a Cabinet meeting via video conferencing.

He recorded the one-minute video before his operation.

“SG50 is a special year for Singapore. The Year of the Horse has been good. Let’s work together in the Year of the Goat, so that there’ll be a wonderful SG50,” he said.

He also thanked everyone for their support and well-wishes.
