The Sultan of Brunei’s son, Prince Azim, has died aged 38.

Azim, who was a part-time Hollywood movie producer, died on Saturday, the tiny southeast Asian kingdom announced on Monday.

Its government did not disclose the cause of death.

The Sultan’s second-born son, Azim was fourth in line to the throne in Brunei, which attracted international opprobrium last year when Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, an absolute monarch, rolled out plans to punish gay sex with execution.

He later U-turned on the law, saying the country would not enforce the penalty following global uproar led by figures such as George Clooney and Sir Elton John.

Despite his family’s wealth, Azim worked as producer on a number of US movies, including 2014’s “You’re Not You” starring Hilary Swank, and the following year’s “Dark Places”, featuring Charlize Theron.

Azim was also famous for hosting extravagant parties featuring guests such as Pamela Anderson, Mariah Carey and Janet Jackson, CNN reported.

Brunei entered a seven-day period of mourning following Azim’s funeral over the weekend.
