Prince Charles drives Jackal armoured vehicle in Colchester

When Prince Charles visited Merville Barracks in Colchester to mark 40 years as Colonel-in-Chief of the Parachute Regiment, he clearly wasn't content with simply being dropped off by a chauffeur.

Wearing the "Paras'" distinctive maroon beret, Prince Charles clambered into the driving seat of a 6,650kg armoured vehicle and took it for a (rather swift) trip around the facility.

The Jackal is a British-developed armed patrol vehicle. It has a 185bhp Cummins engine and a 12.7mm machine gun, along with smaller weaponry and an armed crew of up to five.
