Prince William and Princess Kate's kids are known to participate in some favorite Halloween activities
Prince William and Kate Middleton’s three children — George, 10, Charlotte, 8, and Louis, 5— are returning to the classroom at the Lambrook School this week after their half-term break. They're back just in time for a kid-favorite holiday — Halloween! — sparking speculation about how the siblings might get into the spooky spirit.
While Great British Mag reports that trick-or-treating is not as popular in the U.K. as it is in the U.S. (according to the latest data from the U.S. Census Bureau, about 72 million kids knock on doors for candy annually), Princess Kate was previously spotted leading the trio trick-or-treating!
As seen in a photo published by Hello! magazine, the royal mom stood at a neighbor’s gate with Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis while participating in the classic custom. While it wasn’t possible to discern what costumes the kids might have sported from the distance the picture was taken, Princess Kate held a bag in her hand — perhaps to carry all the candy!
"For anyone doubting how down to earth William and Kate are… This is Kate with their kids knocking on our door in London trick-or-treating at Halloween," neighbor Jay Rutland wrote over the photo, Hello! reported. Rutland is married to British heiress Tamara Ecclestone, and the couple resides in the same Kensington area where William and Kate were previously based, the outlet reported.
The Prince and Princess of Wales made a major move to Windsor at the end of summer 2022, where they settled into Adelaide Cottage and enrolled their kids at Lambrook. The new chapter was full of firsts, from the first time living separately from nanny Maria Turrion Borrallo and the first time George, Charlotte and Louis all attended the same school.
A palace insider previously told PEOPLE that Prince William, 41, loves the “normal” routine Princess Kate, also 41, has in place for their kids, which stems from a larger philosophy to make their childhoods as normal as possible.
"Those children look pretty happy with life," the insider said. "A lot of it is the stabilizing normality Kate brings — and that's how she grew up. William absolutely loves it."
An appreciation for trick-or-treating also seems to be a Middleton family tradition. Last year, Princess Kate's mom, Carole Middleton, spoke about her favorite part of the season in an Instagram post on her Party Pieces page.
"Halloween is an Autumn highlight for me," Carole wrote. "I can still remember the fun and frights from my own childhood; the chance to dress up, decorate pumpkins and go trick-or-treating!"
Sharing the sweet way she planned to celebrate in 2022, she continued, "I've even grown my own pumpkins this year, so I'm looking forward to decorating those with my loved ones."

While her grandchildren’s possible costumes remain under wraps, the trio might look to their favorite activities as inspiration for their Halloween outfits. Prince George and Prince Louis seemed especially excited during their family’s surprise visit to the Royal International Air Tattoo over the summer, while Princess Kate previously revealed that Princess Charlotte “loves ballet and tap.”
While George, Charlotte and Louis are growing up royal, their Halloween costumes are just like everyone else’s! In 2019, Kate was spotted in a Norfolk supermarket shopping for Halloween costumes with her two elder children. Local Kathy Whittaker spotted the royal mom browsing the holiday section.
"I didn't see what she actually bought. The lady that told me she was there had children with her, and she said Kate was asking her children what they were going to be for Halloween," Whittaker said, according to several U.K. newspapers. "I think she bought some Halloween bits for her kids, but I don't know what."
