Prince Harry's Reaction to Prince Charles's COVID-19 Diagnosis: "It Was News Harry Had Been Dreading"

From Town & Country

Back in March, relatively early on the pandemic, Prince Charles became one of the most prominent public figures to test positive for COVID-19 thus far. It was said to be a mild case, and the heir apparent was able to recover and self-isolate at home, but the diagnosis came as a shock nonetheless.

Now, we know how Charles's younger son, Prince Harry, responded to the news. Finding Freedom, a new biography of Harry and Meghan Markle from royal reporters Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, details the Prince's reaction.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex first learned about it "on the afternoon of March 24 when they received a call from the palace: Charles had tested positive for coronavirus and was headed into isolation," the book reads. "His father, who was 71 years old at the time and so more at risk for complications from the virus, had been out at public engagements until a couple of weeks earlier. Though doctors described the Prince of Wales as in 'good spirits' and his symptoms as mild, it was still enough to fill Harry with worry."

Harry reportedly "immediately" called Charles, and "regularly checked in on his father until he was out of quarantine and recovered—as well as Camilla, who had isolated herself as a precaution."

Charles's other son, Prince William, has previously opened up about his own reaction to his father's diagnosis. "I have to admit at first I was quite concerned," William told the BBC in April. "He fits the profile of somebody of the age he's at, which is you know fairly risky, and so I was a little bit worried... But my father has had many chest infections, colds, and things like that over the years, and so I thought to myself if anybody is going to be able to beat this it's going to be him."
