  • Prince William's changing relationship with Prince Harry is detailed in the new book, Finding Freedom.

  • An excerpt from the publication, published by The Times, revealed that William said, "I’ve put my arm around my brother all our lives and I can’t do that anymore; we’re separate entities."

  • A source revealed that Prince William isn't angry with the Sussexes, but "hurt" about them making the royal family's private business public.

The new book, Finding Freedom, cowritten by BAZAAR's Royal Editor at Large, Omid Scobie, and royal correspondent Carolyn Durand, explores the events that led up to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's decision to step down as senior royals.

As well as discussing Meghan's relationship with Kate Middleton, and the Duchess of Sussex's treatment within the royal family, the book also details Prince William and Prince Harry's brotherly bond.

In an excerpt published by The Times, Scobie and Durand reveal that William was unhappy with his brother's decision to leave the royal family. Per the book, "William, a Kensington Palace source explained, remained upset that private family matters were made public by the couple. 'It’s not anger,' the source explained. 'It’s hurt.'"

And that's not all. It would seem that William found it challenging being involved in brokering Harry's deal to step down as a senior royal. As the authors explained, "William was more than happy to leave the matter up to staff. He was reported to have told a friend: 'I’ve put my arm around my brother all our lives and I can’t do that anymore; we’re separate entities.'"

The changing relationship between the siblings was especially evident at the Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey in March. "While Harry and Meghan both greeted William and Kate with smiles, the Cambridges showed little response," Scobie and Durand explained. "It was the first time the two couples had seen each other since January." As Finding Freedom noted, at the service, "'Harry,' William nodded, ignoring Meghan." The future king did appear to extend an olive branch to his brother, but it perhaps wasn't enough.
