  • Queen Elizabeth has named Prince William Lord High Commissioner to the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland.

  • Essentially, the new title means he'll act on behalf of his grandmother in Scotland.

Life's about to get a whole lot busier for Prince William, thanks to his newest title from the Queen. It's been announced that the duke will now take on the role of Lord High Commissioner to the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, meaning he'll be spending more time at engagements in the country.

The announcement was made on Kensington Palace's Twitter account, as they wrote: "The Queen has appointed Prince William as Lord High Commissioner to the General Assembly of the @churchscotland this year."

The role only lasts for a year, and is appointed on the advice of the Prime Minister. Previous royals to have held the title include Princess Anne, Prince Charles, and Prince Edward.

According to the royal family's official website, "The Lord High Commissioner's role is to maintain the relationship between the State and the Church," with the individual "appointed by Her Majesty on the advice of the Prime Minister."

The announcement comes after it was revealed that William's younger brother Harry would be stepping away from royal duties with wife Meghan. The couple will be splitting their time between the UK and Canada, will no longer use their HRH titles and will not receive any further public funds, Buckingham Palace said in a statement.
