Earlier today, Princess Beatrice and her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, made a surprise appearance at the wedding of Jordan's Crown Prince Hussein and Rajwa Al Saif, representing the British royal family alongside her cousin Prince William and Kate Middleton. While she opted for a light and lacy pale blue maxi dress and dainty hair bow for the daytime festivities, for this evening's state banquet the princess chose a more formal ensemble, including a glittering tiara with a special meaning.

Aptly for the Princess of York, Beatrice donned the York Diamond Tiara for the occasion, and while most of the royal family's tiara's have unique histories, this has a particular connection for Beatrice. It was worn by her mother, Sarah Ferguson on her 1986 wedding day to Beatrice's father, Prince Andrew, giving an extra nod to the Jordanian nuptials of today. The custom Garrard tiara is made from platinum with diamonds and is worked in leaf motifs and floral scrollwork and is thought to have been a wedding gift for Ferguson from Beatrice's grandparents, the late Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip.

Having multiple members of the British royal family in attendance was not entirely expected ahead of the royal wedding, but also isn't out of the ordinary. The Jordanian and British royal families have maintained a close relationship for a long time. Indeed, just last month, the Jordanian royals were at King Charles and Queen Camilla's coronation, when King Abdullah II and Queen Rania attended the historic ceremony at Westminster Abbey.
