It's time for the kids to go back to school, and that includes the Prince and Princess of Wales' children in a couple of days (who've apparently been spending some time with their grandfather, King Charles, at Balmoral Castle in Scotland to round off their summer holidays).

Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, eight, and Prince Louis, five, started at Lambrook School last September, with term this year kicking off again on Wednesday 6 September (that's according to its official website). From oldest to youngest, the royal children will now be in Year 6, Year 4 and Year 1 at the prep school in Berkshire.

But while much of the country might refer to Prince William and Kate Middleton's children as 'Prince' and 'Princess', that's not quite how they're known by their classmates and teachers, with their royal titles not actually used in the same way.

Let's be honest, 'Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte of Wales' (Charlotte's official title), for instance, is quite a mouthful to say during the register – and her full list of first names, Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, isn't much quicker either.

Instead, it's thought that the royal children use their parents title of 'Wales' as their surname, meaning they are simply called George Wales, Charlotte Wales and Louis Wales on school grounds. How sweet?

This would have previously been George Cambridge, Charlotte Cambridge and Louis Cambridge, prior to Queen Elizabeth II's death and their parents adopting new roles and titles. When young, Prince William and Prince Harry also took on their father's former title Wales as their surname at school. Lots of back and forth between last names!

We also wonder if George's friends at Lambrook use a similarly adorable nickname for him to his old classmates at Thomas’s Battersea. A source previously told Vanity Fair that George was called "P.G." there, standing for Prince George – a much shorter alternative to his official title, which is George Alexander Louis, His Royal Highness Prince George of Wales.

Either way, we love that the Wales children get to just be George, Charlotte and Louis while at school, a break from being some of the most famous royal children in the world.
