MANILA, Philippines — A protest rally against Vice President Leni Robredo at Quirino Grand Stand on Sunday lasted for eight hours.
Thousands of President Rodrigo Duterte supporters participated the event.
The rally was led by pro-Duterte celebrities such as blogger turned MTRCB board member Mocha Uson and singer now Pagcor official, Jimmy Bondoc.
With banners saying ‘Stop Shaming Duterte’ the rallyists called for the impeachment of VP Robredo.
They also urged for a federal form of government.
“Nag-ugat po ito dahil sa ipinalabas na video ni Lenny Robredo na ipinadala sa UN (United Nations) kung saan siya ay nagpalaganap ng fake news, ng kasinungalingan at paninira sa ating bayan at sa ating Pangulo (This stems from the video Leni Robredo sent to the UN (United Nations) wherein she spreaded fake news, lies and defamation to our country and the President),” said Uson.
Actor Dennis Padilla who was among the event’s hosts said, “Kailangan talaga sa atin kasi may iron fist. Yung talagang buo yung, yung kumbaga eh kahit na anong batikos ang gawin sa kaniya, ipaglalaban niya talaga na ‘no to corruption’, ‘no to drugs’ and ‘no to criminality’ (We need someone with an iron fist. Someone who, despite criticisms, will fight. No to corruption, no to drugs and no to criminality),”
Bondoc told reporters, “Ang Luneta is kilometer zero. Dito nagsisimula lahat ng sukatan. Sana ngayong gabi magsimula din yung tamang sukatan natin sa gobyerno na hindi na lang lahat ng masama tinitingnan natin at binabali-baligtad pa natin yung mga numero (Luneta is Kilometer Zero from which all distances are measured. May tonight begin the correct standard of measuring the government’s performance and not by focusing only on the negative or fabricating statistics).”
President Duterte has previously expressed opposition to ouster plans against Robredo.
Despite this, several Duterte allies such as House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez, continue to promote the impeachment complaint against the vice president. — Asher Cadapan | UNTV News and Rescue
