KUALA LUMPUR: Prof Dr Ahmad Bashawir Abdul Ghani has been appointed as the new vice chancellor of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), effective Aug 26.
The assistant vice chancellor, College of Law, Government and International Studies, will replace Prof Datuk Seri Dr Mohamed Mustafa Ishak.
Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik, who made the announcement today, said Dr Ahmad Bashawir has the experience to bring UMM to greater heights.
“I believe that based on the qualifications, experience and knowledge possessed by Prof Dr Ahmad Bashawir, he can shoulder this responsibility effectively and bring UUM to greater heights,” he said.
He also thanked Dr Mohamed Mustafa for his contributions and services during his term as VC from June 2010.
Dr Ahmad Bashawir holds a Bachelors degree in Finance from Ottawa University, a Masters in Financial Management from University of Hull and a PhD in Commerce from Murdoch University.
He has also held positions such as Dean of Graduate School, Deputy Dean in UUM and Visiting Professor at Universitas Bakrie, Jakarta for a year. © New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd
