PropertyGuru appoints new Malaysia head

PropertyGuru has appointed Sheldon Fernandez (pictured) as the new country manager for its Malaysian business.

With more than 13 years of online and sales leadership experience, Fernandez previously held general management roles in Marcus Evans, Adecco, Nextel Communications and JobsDB in Singapore and Malaysia.

Sheldon has strong online product knowledge and a stellar track record for coaching, developing and increasing performance of teams under his leadership, said PropertyGurus Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder Steve Melhuish.

We are confident that he is the right person for the job, as our PropertyGuru values have always been about teamwork, respect, developing talent and to deliver the best information for consumers seeking to make the right choice for property, Melhuish added.

Fernandez will report directly to Melhuish and will be responsible for all partnership activities and sales in Malaysia. He will also serve as the key representative for PropertyGuru in Malaysia.

I am excited to be joining such a strong team at PropertyGuru Malaysia, which has brought the business to become market leader in Southeast Asia in such a short period of time. My prime focus will be with our customers and to coach the team to continue our journey of success, noted Fernandez.

PropertyGuru has grown rapidly in Malaysia to over 4,500 paying agents during the last four years. In the last two years alone, active property listings on its Malaysian portal soared to 370,000 from 60,000.

Monthly traffic also jumped from 700,000 page views to 1.8 million, with mobile activity accounting for 38 percent of total traffic.

In fact, the group has the most popular suite of property search apps within the industry, with 2.5 million downloads on its PropertyGuru Mobile App.

Earlier this year, PropertyGuru announced it was powering Maybanks mobile property finder app. Launched on 15 April, the app aims to help buyers search for properties either for business, investment or residential, within their preferred price range and location.

Other updates include the launch of new mortgage calculators, brand new look and feel website, property price trends as well as tools and comparison engine in Malaysia.
