PRs, foreigners to pay more for S’pore schooling

In a bid to further differentiate school fees by citizenship, the Ministry of Education has raised tuition fees for non-Singaporean students in schools in the country.

From next year onwards, primary school fees will go up by $50 for permanent resident (PR) students, while international students will have to pay up to $155 more than what they used to. Primary school education for Singaporeans is free.

Secondary school fees will be hiked by between $65 and $180 for PRs and international students, respectively, while at the pre-university level, fees will go up by between $80 and $250.

This means that an international student will from 2013 have to pay $500 per month for primary school, $650 for secondary school and $1,000 per month for pre-university education here, while a Singapore citizen will pay five and six dollars for secondary and pre-university education respectively.
