PSG prepare offer for £40m star Man City will sell to make room for incredible replacement
Man City are planning to sell Aymeric Laporte abroad this summer, according to a report – and with one bidder identified, they can firm up their plans to replace him.
Laporte has seen a serious reduction in his gametime for Man City this season. Therefore, the 28-year-old is considering his future. He still has plenty to offer, but might have to do so for another club.
There have been tentative links with the likes of Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur. However, the latest from Football Insider suggests that Man City do not want to strengthen any domestic rival.
Fortunately for Pep Guardiola’s side, there is interest in Laporte emerging from abroad. TEAMtalk already understands he would be keen to join Barcelona, but Football Insider has added Paris Saint-Germain into contention.
The website claims Man City are seeking a fee of £40million for Laporte. PSG have enough financial power to be able to meet those demands if they decide he is worth it.
The French champions need to strengthen their defence, since Sergio Ramos is out of contract at the end of the season. Even if he extends, adding a long-term successor would be useful.
Laporte has never played in Ligue 1, but was actually born in France, despite going on to represent the Spain national team.
Perhaps PSG could give him a new opportunity – as long as they outbid Barcelona – which would allow Man City to reinvest. According to the report, they would like to replace him with RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol.
That reflects what TEAMtalk already revealed almost three weeks ago. Gvardiol is highly rated at the age of 21 and has many elite suitors.
Therefore, he would be an outstanding long-term successor to Laporte. However, he will be more expensive. Therefore, any transfer fee City receive for their current number 14 would only go some way to covering that cost.

Gvardiol makes sense as a Laporte successor for Man City
But it is understandable why Gvardiol would come with a higher price tag. Not only is he younger, but he also has a longer contract with his current club.
Indeed, RB Leipzig have him tied down until 2027, whereas Laporte’s deal with Man City is due to run out in 2025.
Laporte has been a fine player for Man City over the years, making 171 appearances since his January 2018 arrival. But with Guardiola recently turning to Ruben Dias, Manuel Akanji, Nathan Ake and John Stones more frequently, it might almost be time for a change.
By securing the services of Gvardiol, Man City would be getting their hands on one of Europe’s most coveted defensive prospects.
Laporte would be a tough act to follow in some ways. But as another left footer, Gvardiol could be in a good position to take over.
Meanwhile, Man City and PSG could also be embroiled in a transfer battle for another exciting young centre-back.
