KUCHING, Sept 15 — Sarawak DAP Women chief Irene Chang today told the federal government that the public is expecting more reforms than what have been done so far since the 14th general election last year.

She said although Pakatan Harapan (PH) has done so much after winning the election, it is still not enough especially in Sarawak which will be holding the state election due in 2021.

“Since the 14th general election, let’s be frank to ourselves that there have been ups and downs. In fact, there are more downs than ups that we have faced,” the Bukit Assek state lawmaker said at the Sarawak Pakatan Women convention here.

“And in fact, some people are not happy with the reforms politically which our national leaders are making and implementing.

“We cannot blame them, we have to listen to them, to their voices, because they need to look at things for the immediate results,” she added, but did not elaborate on which reforms that need to be expedited.

Chang said when voters cannot see any immediate results, they would think that the policy reforms are wrong and cannot be implemented.

“I feel that this is where we can come in and where Pakatan women members has to come in to give the explanation,” she said, telling the wing that they must know and understand what these reforms are.

Chang also reminded the Sarawak wing of its role in the political coalition, saying that they should not let the men to make decisions for them.

She also reminded the audience Sarawak will be holding its election in 2021, or even as early as next year.

“We women can be the king makers in this election in case the political landscape comes unfoiling in our state,” Chang said, explaining that women make up 48.5 per cent of the state’s 2.8 million population, compared to men at 51.5 per cent.
