Liberal Party member and Quezon City Rep. Jorge “Bolet” Banal visited PSBank Katipunan last month asking for help in verifying the authenticity of photocopies of Chief Justice Renato Corona’s bank records that he supposedly got from an anonymous source.
Banal voluntarily appeared before the Senate impeachment court on Thursday to explain his side about two hours after PSBank branch manager Annabelle Tiongson testified that on Jan. 31 he asked her for help regarding Corona’s bank records.
The night before he went to PSBank, the House of Representatives’ deputy majority floor leader said he found copies of Corona’s bank records inside an envelope left by an anonymous source on their driveway in St. Ignatius Village, an exclusive residential community in Quezon City.
“Totoo po iyon. Ako po ay nagpunta po roon para humingi ng tulong… Meron akong alam, pero gusto ko i-verify. Baka mali po kasi, dahil photocopy lang kasi sya,” he said, telling the impeachment court why he went to the bank.
He properly identified himself at the bank, and left a business card with his contact numbers, the congressman noted.
Banal said he chose not to tell any of the prosecutors regarding the Corona bank records so as not “to add to their burden.”
“Wala po akong sinabihan kahit na sino… Pasensya na po if naka-cause ng any problem,” he told the senator-judges. — VS, GMA News
