Singapore swimmer Quah Zheng Wen did not make the semi-finals of the 50m backstroke event at the ongoing FINA World Championships, held at Budapest, Hungary on Saturday (29 July).

Quah clocked 25.58 seconds, finishing ninth in his heats, and 30th overall. Only the top 16 will proceed into the semi-finals.

Prior to this event, Quah had missed out on the semi-finals of the 100m backstroke, 100m butterfly, 200m butterfly and 200m backstroke.

The 21-year-old had told Yahoo News Singapore before the World Championships that he was confident of making at least one final, but fell short of the target.

However, he did break his own national record in the 200m backstroke after clocking 1 minutes 59.49 seconds in the heats on Thursday.

Team mate Joseph Schooling will attempt to make a podium finish in the final of the 100m butterfly tonight. He will swim at 12:13am (Singapore time) on Sunday.
