New Qualcomm chip will detect malicious activity

A new chip could help alert smartphone users to malicious activity on their devices

Qualcomm has detailed a new feature within its Smart Protect technology, which will help monitor malicious activity.

The new chip will be available on its upcoming Snapdragon 820 processor and will monitor how apps behave on a device to check for suspicious activity.

The chip will go further than most anti-malware solutions, which usually react to known threats. Smart Protect will alert users of what's happening on their smartphone or tablet almost instantaneously.

The feature will be available when Qualcomm launches its Snapdragon 820 in the first half of 2016.
