Queen Elizabeth Displays Photo of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in Buckingham Palace
Queen Elizabeth may be the British monarch, but she is also a proud grandmother, who, like most grandparents, wants to show off her family. New photos from Buckingham Palace show that the Queen has framed photographs of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex on display.
The collection of photographs sits on a table next to the fireplace. The image of Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, is the couple's engagement portrait, captured by photographer Mario Testino. The Queen displays the photo in a dark wooden frame. On the next table is a photo of Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, which shows the couple is embracing. This image is displayed in a silver frame. Alongside these two photographs are a picture of the Queen and Prince Charles on her 90th birthday and a golden clock.
Harry and Meghan's picture being on display is particularly notable given recent tensions between the Sussexes and the royal family as an institution.
These photos were on display when the Queen met with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson. The pair has a weekly audience, though this was their first time in-person since before the COVID-19 pandemic. Their last face-to-face audience was March 11, 2020.
“I’ve just been talking to your Secretary of State for Health—poor man!” said the Queen to Johnson. “He thinks that things are getting better?”
“They are” replied the Prime Minister.
Though they did not have a one-on-one audience, the Queen and Johnson previously saw each other at the G7 Summit in Cornwall, England. The Queen hosted an event in honor of the Summit at the Eden Project, an educational charity and eco-tourism site in Cornwall. President Joe Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden were in attendance, along with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, and the other G7 leaders and their spouses.
