Queen's death certificate shows whether Prince William made it to her side in time
Queen Elizabeth II's death certificate was made public yesterday, confirming that Her Majesty died of "old age" like her husband, Prince Philip, who passed away last year. The document also revealed the time of the monarch's passing – 3:10pm – which was previously unknown to the general public who learned of the Queen's death over three hours later at 6:31pm on 8 September.
Many spent the day glued to the news, desperate for more details about the state of the Queen's health. From early on, things didn't look good. TV presenters changed into black suits and members of the Royal Family rushed to Balmoral Castle to be at her side. Now, the release of the Queen's death certificate has revealed whether or not her loved ones made it to her side before she passed away.
Sadly, the death certificate has confirmed that Her Majesty died just minutes before a plane carrying Prince William, Prince Andrew, Prince Edward and Sophie Wessex landed. The group had travelled from RAF Northolt in South Ruislip and landed at Aberdeen airport at 3:50pm, almost an hour's drive away from Balmoral. A photo of the foursome being driven by Prince William to Balmoral was widely publicised, but their arrival was not confirmed until around 5pm.
Another royal who did not make it in time to say a final farewell to Her Majesty was Prince Harry – who flew over from Germany where he were promoting the Invictus Games. It is understood that the Duke of Sussex arrived at Balmoral shortly after 6:31pm, when the Queen’s death was officially announced to the world.
Although many of the Queen's family were unable to reach Balmoral in time see her before she passed away, King Charles III and Princess Anne were with her in her final moments. It was sheer coincidence that the pair were in Scotland at the time, with Charles having enjoyed a short visit to Dumfries House in Ayrshire, alongside his wife Camilla, now the Queen Consort. Princess Anne, meanwhile, was in Scotland carrying out royal engagements.
The Queen is said to have died "peacefully" with her two children at her side as well as her beloved corgis, Muick and Sandy, who also made an appearance at the monarch's state funeral on 19 September.
