SINGAPORE — Raffles City was plunged into darkness on Monday night (13 January).

Rudi Osman was dining with his mother and girlfriend at Da Paolo Gastronomia, located at basement one of the shopping centre, when the blackout struck at around 8pm.

The 34-year-old freelance producer said the mall was thrown into pitch darkness for about a minute, after which the building’s emergency lights came on.

When Rudi left about 30 minutes later, many shoppers and staff were still inside the building.

“No one panicked, and everyone just went about their business as per normal,” he said.

In a Facebook post, the mall’s management said that it was alerted at around 8pm to a “partial power outage” and that power was fully restored by 11.30pm.

“We closed the mall for the day at about 9:40pm while working on restoring the power supply in full,” said the management, adding that it was sorry for any inconvenience caused.
