KUALA LUMPUR: Kelantan Wanita Umno chief Datin Rahimah Mahamad was today sworn in as a Dewan Negara senator for a second term.

The swearing in ceremony took place before Dewan Negara president Datuk S.A. Vigneswaran, as upper house proceedings kicked off today.

Rahimah, 64, who is also the Kelab Wanita Penyayang chairman, was appointed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Meanwhile, Vigneswaran said Rahimah's reappointment was a recognition of her contributions.

"I hope she can continue her good performance, and can be translated into active participation in the debate on the respective bills," he said.

The current Dewan Negara proceedings will run until April 27.
