The rainy weather over the last two days is forecast to ease by Tuesday evening (24 January), the National Environment Agency (NEA) said in an update on its website.

In the meantime, overcast skies with periods of moderate to heavy showers, at times with thunder, are expected to persist on Tuesday.

On Monday, heavy rain caused flash floods in Tanjong Pagar. High risk of flooding was also reported in Alexandra Road, Tiong Bahru, the West Coast and other areas.

NEA said the showers are due to a northeast monsoon surge that is currently affecting Singapore. The monsoon surge refers to a strengthening of winds over the South China Sea, causing extensive rainclouds to form over our surrounding region.
