The real reason why Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet broke up

Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet sent the celebrity world into shock this week when they announced their divorce after 16 years together, and now a report claims to know the real reason why.

The pair, who were married for five years, posted a joint statement on Jason's Instagram (Lisa is not officially on social media) on Wednesday night [12 January], which read, "We have all felt the squeeze and changes of these transformational times… A revolution is unfolding ~and our family is of no exception… feeling and growing from the seismic shifts occurring."

They continued, "And so~ We share our Family news~ That we are parting ways in marriage. We share this not because we think it’s newsworthy ~ But so that~ as we go about our lives we may do so with dignity and honesty.

"The love between us carries on, evolving in ways it wishes to be known and lived. We free each other ~to be who we are learning to become…"

The post finished with a heartfelt poem. Now sources at Entertainment Tonight and Us Weekly claim to know what led to the decision. "Jason and Lisa worked because they were so different," one insider suggested. He was jovial, loud and the centre of attention, and Lisa was always cool, calm and subdued.

"That energy really started to cause friction because they wanted to live different lives. Jason wanted to travel and adventure much more. Lisa, she would rather read, write poetry, and cook at home."

Another insider added that distance was also a contributing factor, saying, "Jason and Lisa were struggling in their relationship for quite some time.

"When Jason was away filming Aquaman 2, their differences and issues were heightened. He was gone for a while and it definitely put additional stress on their relationship. [They] still have love for each other and respect one another."

Whatever happened, here's to hoping they're both doing OK.
