Rebel Wilson walked the weight off - but how do other stars stay slim?

Hugely popular actor Rebel Wilson, 41, has opened up about how she lost 35kg of body weight, and slimmed down dramatically over two years.

The Pitch Perfect star went public in 2020 with her 'year of health', telling fans that she was going to focus on health and wellbeing. During that time, she lost five and a half stone, through 'lifestyle tweaks' and regular aerobic walking, which she now says is her favourite way to stay active and keep the excess weight off.

"I feel like sometimes people think you need to work your body really hard to get results, and yeah, if you were training to be the next Thor or something you would be doing hardcore things, but as a regular person, walking is just so healthy for you. The body is designed to move in that way," said Wilson.

"I've managed to maintain that for almost a year. It's just all those lifestyle habits changing,

She loves the fact that it's so easy to do, 'anywhere in the world', and likes to listen to podcasts as she strides.

Previously Rebel was a 'stress eater' and turned to sugar and carbs when she felt overwhelmed. She added, "'I think what the pandemic taught us all is that health is so important. Your health is your world.

"It doesn't matter how much money you've got, if you've got terrible health, you can't enjoy anything and if you're healthy, you can live life to the fullest."

According to People Magazine, Rebel also used the Mayr Method, promoted by the exclusive Austrian spa and health clinic Vivamayr, where she stayed to kick-start her health journey.

It means a low or no-sugar diet, and elimination of any food intolerances. Unsurprisingly, Wilson also works out with a personal trainer most days, and walks to help maintain her new shape - and of course, because she enjoys it.

But while Wilson's methods seem almost achievable, other stars choose to go hard or go home.

Jennifer Aniston, 51, reportedly works out hard for at least an hour a day, and also takes yoga classes as well as doing regular HIIT training.

She builds her diet around healthy proteins - avocado, salmon, coconut and of course, lots of fruit and veg, and reportedly uses a personal chef, who designs all her meals to be nutritionally balanced.

Compared to fellow Jennifer, JLo, however, it's a pretty achievable, laid-back regime. The singer and Hustlers star, who is currently back with her ex Ben Affleck, is known to push herself hard for the incredible body she has at 52.

Her trainer Dodd Romero told Oprah Magazine that JLo even gets an exercise routine in before she goes on stage as her 'pre game warm-up.' She trains for her shows with exhausting dance routines, and adds gym workouts on top, with ab crunches and weights.

The star also learnt to pole-dance for her role as a dancer in Hustlers, and said, "It’s like acrobatic; it’s [working] different muscle groups.

"The things [pole dancers] do with their legs and everything, and go upside down…it’s hard. I have a lot of respect for people who do the pole.”

As for her diet, "She stays away from processed foods and gets her nutrients from whole sources," Dodd says. These include egg whites, lean turkey, chicken breast, organic beef, and salmon or sea bass for healthy fats.

Once a day, she treats herself to a "handful" of nuts. Don't go wild there, JLo.

Other fitness fanatics include Jessica Biel, who does an hour of "walking lunges, sprinting, cardio workouts, and yoga" daily, as well as regular hikes with her dogs, while Nicole Kidman, 52, keeps in astonishing shape with a tailored exercise programme that includes "running, spinning, yoga, swimming, 55-minute Pilates sessions and a weekly spinning class, plus cardio workouts on a cross trainer."

Oh and regular speed-walking and running.

Of course, dancers and performers like J-Lo get an extra workout just from doing their job. Look at Madonna - at 63, she still works out daily, according to her trainer.

Her trainer, Craig Smith, told Daily Mail Australia, "She does a combination of circuit training, interval training, and resistance training."

"Dance is obviously a huge part of that.” Those workouts include barre training, yoga, martial arts, and boxing, and Smith says they cover everything from core strength to flexibility.

She also maintains a 'regimented diet.' Of course she does, she's Madonna.

On balance Rebel's regime looks a lot more do-able. Bring us our walking boots and a slab of Kendal mint cake.
