KUALA LUMPUR: The government is rebranding Rural Transformation Centres (RTC) and mini Rural Transformation Centres (RTC) as Village Community Centres (PKD).

Rural Development Minister Rina Harun said the PKDs would be improved and function as centres for women’s empowerment programmes, as outlined in the draf Rational Development Blueprint Action Plan, and as hubs for village digital programmes.

“This rebranding is in line with the government’s decision to end the National Blue Ocean Strategy,” she said.

Rina said RTCs in Melaka, Pahang, Johor, Kedah and Terengganu had been rebranded under the ministry’s supervision.

She said the state governments would set the direction for RTCs in Negri Sembilan and Sarawak (Sibuti and Betong).

Rina said the government would implement the rationalisation of 196 mini RTCs in stages.

“This process should be recognised as an effort on the part of the government to avoid the duplication of roles and optimise the use of financial resource,” she said. © New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd
