Redevelopment Plan For MCA Headquarters Revised Again

The Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) is believed to have revised its redevelopment plans for its headquarters along Jalan Ampang.

The Edge Financial Daily reported that MCA has submitted a new plan to tear down the 23-storey building to make way for a 29-storey building.

Documents seen by the financial daily showed that the political party had submitted the revised plan to the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) at end-June.

Nestled on a freehold land measuring 4,955 sq m or 53,335 sq ft, Wisma MCA was registered in 1983 under the name of MCA.

The political party submitted its first redevelopment plan for the property in October 2017. It subsequently amended the initial plan, submitting a second plan in July last year, which featured a 70-storey tower that includes a hotel, offices, restaurant and sky lounge.

The revised proposal submitted in October 2018 was for a shorter 45-storey block.

The new plan, which received conditional approval from DBKL, includes a hawker centre, retail space, a multi-purpose hall, museum, auditorium, exhibition centre and 13-storeys of hotel with 164 rooms. Notably, the new plan will see the removal of the office component from the previous plan.

The reason for amending the redevelopment plan for the third time is not known.

DBKL, however, announced earlier this year that property projects that have been previously granted approval in principle with a higher plot ratio than what is allowed under Kuala Lumpur City Plan 2020 are mandated to secure fresh approval from DBKL.
