Reminders For Teacher Absentee Voting

MANILA, Philippines --- The Department of Education (DepEd) reminded teachers yesterday about the March 15 deadline for submission of requirements for availing themselves of local absentee voting privilege pursuant to Commission on Elections (Comelec) Resolution No. 9637.

This is particularly important for teachers who may be assigned to act as Board of Election Inspectors (BOI), said Education Secretary Armin Luistro.

Luistro issued DepEd Memorandum No. 48 series of 2013, or the "Guidelines on the Availment of the Provisions for Local Absentee Voting" to all Bureau and Regional Directors, Schools Division/City Superintendents and Heads of Public Elementary and Secondary Schools.

Teachers who wish to vote earlier should be able to accomplish the required forms and submit these to their respective Schools Division/City Superintendents (SDS) or their Officers-in-Charge (OIC) before the March 15 deadline, Luistro said.

The DepEd circulated the guidelines for the availment of the provisions for local absentee voting of Comelec Resolution No. 9637 dated February 13, 2013, entitled "Rules and Regulations on Local Absentee Voting in Connection with the May 13, 2013 Synchronized National, Local and ARMM Regional Elections, and Subsequent National and Local Elections Thereafter.
