Report: Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa out vs. Texans with finger injury, could miss Week 10 game

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has a small fracture in the middle figure of his throwing hand and will not play Sunday against the Houston Texans, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported.

Tagovailoa went through pregame warm-ups and was unable to go with the injury, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. He is officially active for the Dolphins as the second-string quarterback, but is not expected to play unless there's an emergency.

Jacoby Brissett will start for the Dolphins (1-7) at home against the Texans (1-7) and quarterback Tyrod Taylor, who is coming off a hamstring injury. He missed six games and returned to practices last week.

Tagovailoa status for Thursday's Week 10 games

It could put his status for Week 10 in jeopardy as well since the Dolphins are on a short turnaround with "Thursday Night Football." The Dolphins host the Baltimore Ravens (5-2) on Thursday, leaving four days for Tagovailoa's injury to fully heal.

Tagovailoa missed time earlier this season with fractured ribs he suffered against the Buffalo Bills. He took a big hit from defensive end A.J. Epenesa during the 35-0 loss and had to be helped off the field. The second-year starter was put on IR and missed three weeks before returning in Week 6.

Tagovailoa is trying to solidify himself as the Dolphins' quarterback for the long haul, but has struggled with health. The Dolphins' only win in 2021 is a 17-16 escape against the New England Patriots in Week 1. The quarterback has thrown for 2,854 yards with 18 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
